UNLOCKING SYNERGIES: UBD CONTRIBUTES INSIGHTS AT BRUNEI STARTUP SUMMIT 2024

Bandar Seri Begawan, 25 January 2024 – Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) through the Office of the Assistant Vice-Chancellor (Innovation and Enterprise) recently participated in a panel discussion during the Brunei Startup Summit 2024, organised by Brunei Economic Development Board (BEDB), Darussalam Enterprise (DARE), and Brunei Innovation Lab (BIL). The event, held at Rizqun International Hotel, brought together eminent voices to explore the theme, ‘Research to Commercialisation’.

UBD was represented by Professor Dr Mohd Ayub Sadiq, Assistant Vice-Chancellor (Innovation & Enterprise). Joining him were other esteemed panelists, including Dr Eric Balan, Chief Executive Officer of AsiaTech Education Sdn Bhd, and Ms. Norazizah Jaafar, Head of Brunei Intellectual Property Office (BruIPO). The session was skillfully moderated by Mr. Adzimin Amin, Business Development Lead at Brunei Innovation Lab.

The discussion delved into the multifaceted perspectives of academia, industry, and government regulators on effectively contributing within the research ecosystem. As the theme, 'Research to Commercialisation', suggests, the panelists shed light on the pivotal role these sectors play in achieving successful commercialisation of research outcomes.

The Brunei Startup Summit 2024 stands as a pivotal forum for collaborative endeavors and knowledge exchange, uniting key stakeholders to catalyse innovation and entrepreneurship in the Sultanate. The active engagement of UBD through OAVCIE’s participation in the panel discussion underscores its unwavering commitment to bridging the gaps between research and commercialisation.
