July 08, 2022

On 8 July 2022, 24 students who participated in the Imagine x UBD Community Tuition Center Program were celebrated for their success in the PSR 2021 examination held at Pehin Khatib Abdullah Mosque Kampong Kulapis.

In the event, certificates are presented to the students, teachers, village heads and the mosque’s imam by the Guest of Honour, Acting Brunei-Muara District Officer, Haji Amirol Hafidzin Bin Haji Mohammad, witnessed by parents and guardians of the students and UBD’s and Imagine’s staff. Also present, Dr Hazri Bin Haji Kifle, the Vice Chancellor of UBD, Suzannawati binti Haji Suharju, Imagine Chief Executive Officer and Prof. Dr. Ayub, Director of UBD OAVCIE.

Apart from the certificates, students under this programme also received shopping vouchers and food hampers while high performing students were also presented with monetary rewards sponsored by the company.

This community tuition programme started on July 2021, the first activity under the imagine x UBD Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) partnership that includes cooperation in the areas of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) among which encompasses education. It was an initiative mainly to assist financially challenged students in preparing for their PSR examination. The students attended this tuition every Friday and Sunday at the multipurpose room of the Pehin Khatib Abdullah Mosque. Students selected to attend this programme were identified with the support from the village heads of Brunei-Muara Zone 5, schools principals within the catchment area and the Pehin Khatib Abdullah Mosque. UBD OAVCIE has obtained some volunteers, a number of SHBIE academic staff and two fresh graduates in Masters of teaching to jointly manage this programme.

This program experienced disruption due to the sudden increase in Brunei Covid-19 cases in August 2021 which caused implementation of online learning. Imagine has been generous providing the company's mobile data plans to facilitate and support the children's online learning needs.
