Meeting with the Putra Science Park of Universiti Putra Malaysia

On 14th November 2022, the Office of Assistant Vice-Chancellor Innovation and Enterprise (OAVCIE) virtually met with Putra Science Park (PSP) of Universiti Putra Malaysia (UTM) to discuss potential collaborations between the two universities. OAVCIE was led by Professor Mohammad Ayub Sadiq, the Assistant Vice-Chancellor (Innovation and Enterprise) of UBD, whilst UPM PSP was led by Prof Ir Dr Kamarul Arifin Ahmad, the director of UPM PSP. Also present in the meeting were representatives from both OAVCIE and PSP.

Being one of the successful universities in the area of commercialisation of Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs), OAVCIE had previously engaged PSP on online trainings for OAVICE’s staff and Faculty Representatives for Entrepreneurship Development (FRED) in the area of Intellectual Property Rights and Commercialisation. This virtual meeting formally expressed OAVCIE’s intentions to explore other collaboration efforts in the area of innovation and entrepreneurship, including study visits, knowledge exchanges, staff and student exchanges, collaborations in the area of intellectual property rights. Also, discussed were connecting OAVCIE with student incubation and entrepreneurship centres, as well as research centres, aligned with UBD’s research thrusts. The meetings also explore the establishment of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between UBD and UPM, to facilitate future inter-university collaborations.

Putra Science Park (PSP) of Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) is the innovation management center for Universiti Putra Malaysia and is involved in the activities of marketing new technologies, new innovations, technology transfer of research results and intellectual property (IP) of Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) researchers. PSP is responsible for moving potential technologies and research from the laboratory to the market in collaboration with industries.

PSP plays an important role in the management of UPM's intellectual property such as patents, copyrights, industrial designs, know-how including trade secrets and has, on numerous occasions, received the highest recognition in intellectual property management in Malaysia.
