UBD EXPLORES OPPORTUNITIES IN THE AQUACULTURE INDUSTRY

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Brunei, 25 July 2023 – A delegation from Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD), led by Professor Dr. Mohd Ayub Sadiq, Assistant Vice Chancellor (Innovation & Enterprise), recently embarked on a significant visit to Blue Ocean Tech Sendirian Berhad in Kampong Serasa, a joint-venture company from the Republic of China. Blue Ocean Tech is renowned for its pioneering breeding program of Blue Shrimps, primarily intended for the international export market. 

Also present was Dr. Annie Dayani Abdullah Ahad, Deputy Director (Enterprise) from the Office of Assistant Vice Chancellor (Innovation & Enterprise) and three other officers. 

Upon their arrival, the UBD delegation was warmly received by Madam Sheren Khew, General Manager of Blue Ocean Tech Sendirian Berhad, alongside several other key officers. 

The meeting provided an invaluable platform for both delegations to engage in a fruitful exchange of views and perspectives. Their discussions centered on the exploration of collaborative opportunities within the aquaculture industry. These opportunities encompassed leveraging the extensive expertise available at UBD to enhance research collaboration in aquaculture, matching industry needs with academic skills and competencies, and creating opportunities for students to gain valuable industry experience. These collaborations supported UN SDG 2 that is in achieving food security and the promotion of sustainable aquaculture, and also UN SDG 4 by fostering inclusive, equitable, high-quality education for all.

The visit reached its conclusion with an informative and enlightening tour of the Blue Ocean Tech facilities, followed by a group photo session to commemorate this promising venture.
