World Intellectual Property Day (WIPD) 2022

Office of Assistant Vice-Chancellor Innovation and Enterprise (OAVCIE) has successfully co-organized the World Intellectual Property Day 2022 (WIPD) event on 26th Oct 2022. Collaboration with Bru IPO and Shell LiveWIRE Brunei Sdn Bhd was an enjoyable and exciting moment. The working event committee was spearheaded by Nurul Hazirah binti Hj Jali, Project Manager of the Office of Assistant Vice-Chancellor (Innovation and Enterprise).

The World Intellectual Property Day Celebration was held with the theme: “Intellectual Property and Youth: Innovating for a better future.” located at the Pro-Chancellor Art Centre, UBD.

As the Guest of Honour to officiate the event, Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Paduka Awang Haji Ahmad Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Setia Bakti Di-Raja Dato Laila Utama Haji Awang Isa, the Honourable Attorney General, who is also the Registrar of Trade Marks, Patents and Industrial Designs.

The morning session started with Surah Al-Fatihah for the Opening Ceremony/ Forum & Dialogue, followed by the afternoon session with BruIPO Presentation, and finally, the online WIPO IP Diagnostics. During the opening ceremony, winners of the recent BruIPO National Poster-Making Competition also received prizes.

The event commences with engaging forum talks with industry leaders and young and inspiring entrepreneurs: tips and tricks, motivation to innovate and start doing business. The discussions include industry trends and secrets. The forum was held in two parts.

Participants were also invited to visit the exhibition booths and collaborate with relevant industries, especially in promoting awareness and inspiring all attendees to innovate. Amongst the exhibitors are Raiden Studio, UBD Entrepreneur Village, ShinKomik, Shell LiveWire, The Brunei Innovation Lab (BIL), Rumine Corporation, Mindtrex Academy, Centre for AI Innovation (CEAI), BeAT Bhd and also BruIPO. Another exciting exhibit of InnoWharf, by the Office of Assistant Vice-Chancellor (Innovation and Enterprise), displays selected patents through interactive digital boxes. Also demonstrated were the interactive touchscreen panels, which showcase the Universiti Brunei Darussalam's progression over the years, University artefacts and many others.

Shell LiveWIRE Brunei facilitated the first part of the forum and dialogue with the topic Tech-Innovation is the improvement of existing products or the introduction of new products or services utilising new technology, method or tools to achieve better efficiency or productivity.

The second part of the forum and dialogue opens the floor for the audience to learn from the success stories and insights of Brunei's youths, including various industry experts and founders. The objective is also to highlight real case studies in technology and innovation.

The second highlight of the event is the workshop conducted by Brunei Intellectual Property Office (BruIPO), open to the public, targeting the UBD incubators with the topic Know Your IP Rights (BruIPO Presentation and Activities).

And finally, the event concluded with the Special IP Diagnostics Presentation by Miss Mariana Velosco, Assistant IP For Business Division (IPBD), IP And Innovation Ecosystems Sector, Of the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) with a relevant and valuable experience for our UBD incubators and the public.
