ADVANCING ENGINEERING EXCELLENCE: UBD, BELTS, AND HOPE TECHNIK SINGAPORE FOR STRATEGIC COLLABORATION

Thursday 30 May 2024 – A meeting initiated by the Office of the Assistant Vice Chancellor (Innovation and Enterprise) was recently held to explore a potential tripartite collaboration between Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD), Brunei Engineering, Logistics and Technology Solutions (BELTS), and HOPE Technik (Singapore). The focus was on key areas of engineering and technology. This initiative highlights the commitment of all three parties to enhance academic engagement, promote knowledge exchange, contribute to cutting-edge research opportunities, and develop a regional talent pool. The meeting identified mutual interests in creating viable programs and internship placements for UBD students to produce industry-ready graduates in engineering and technology. Discussions centred on leveraging the expertise and resources of BELTS and HOPE Technik to provide the technical know-how for UBD students.

Joining the meeting from BELTS was the Chief Executive Officer, Tuan Muhammad Noh Haji Madali who was accompanied by Tuan Ahmed Nuruddin his Manage of Business Development, and Tuan Mirza Musa, his assistant. Meanwhile HOPE Technik (Singapore) was represented by Tuan Peter Mok, Senior Advisor, and UBD was represented by Professor Dr Mohd Ayub Sadiq @ Lin Naing Assistant Vice Chancellor (Innovation and Enterprise) and Dr Haji Abdul Hanif Dato Paduka Haji Mahadi, Assistant Vice Chancellor (Research).  Also joining from UBD were Senior Professor Dr Liyanage Chandratilak De Silva, Dean of School of Digital Science and Dr Hazwani Suhaimi, Acting Deputy Dean of Faculty of Integrated Technologies.

The meeting resulted in a unified interest and strong intentions to enhance collaboration, promoting internship programs, fostering research innovation, and preparing students for careers in the dynamic engineering sector. These strategic partnerships and collaborative efforts support UBD's initiatives to provide impactful experiences for its students and contribute to sustainable industrial development for economic growth.

UBD is dedicated to advancing sustainable development initiatives through interdisciplinary research and strategic partnerships, encompassing various forms such as research collaboration, student internships, student entrepreneurs' opportunities, and innovation labs' establishment. The meeting concluded with a tour of the Universiti Brunei Darussalam-Virginia Tech (UBD-VT) lab to showcase cutting-edge research facilities, highlight ongoing projects, and allow attendees to engage directly with students and faculty involved in innovative engineering initiatives.
