HARMONIZING HORIZONS: UNVEILING AQUACULTURE COLLABORATIONS WITH INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG

Tuesday 9 April 2024 – An online meeting initiated by Office of Assistant Vice Chancellor (Innovation and Enterprise), was held to bolster collaboration between Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) and Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) in priority areas in the field of aquaculture. This initiative underscores the commitment of both institutions to enhance academic engagement, promote knowledge exchange, and contribute to the advancement of aquaculture practices in the region. The meeting saw mutual interest in exploring research opportunities and internship placement for UBD students in the scope of aquaculture. The discussion centered on leveraging the expertise and resources available at ITB to provide technical know-how for UBD students. Also discussed were possibilities to facilitate internship placements for the students at ITB partner industries to provide them with invaluable practical experience and insights into industry practices. The meeting went further to discuss about collaborative research endeavors within the aquaculture industry.

Joining the one-hour meeting from ITB was an esteemed academic from School of Life Sciences and Technology and a researcher of the Microbial Biotechnology expertise group from ITB, Dr Magdalena Lenny Situmorang. Also joining was Puan Fathatus Sania Noer, Head of International Mobility. Meanwhile, UBD was represented by the Assistant Vice Chancellor (Innovation and Enterprise), Professor Dr Mohd Ayub Sadiq @ Lin Naing and Assistant Vice Chancellor (Research), Dr Haji Abdul Hanif Dato Paduka Haji Mahadi. Also joining from UBD were Dr Faizah Haji Metali, a senior assistant professor from Faculty of Science, Dr Muhammad Saifullah Abu Bakar and Associate Professor Dr Muhamad Roil Bilad. Both Dr Saifullah and Dr Roil are from the Faculty of Integrated Technologies.

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to advancing collaboration that would reflect shared commitment of UBD and ITB to fostering research innovation, and preparing students for careers in the dynamic field of aquaculture. Such strategic partnerships and collaborative endeavors would corroborate UBD’s efforts in contributing to the sustainable development of the aquaculture industry and create impactful opportunities for students in Brunei.
