INVITED TALK BY BRUNEI INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY OFFICE

On 5th April 2021, Brunei Intellectual Property Office (BruIPO) delivered a seminar on Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) in Brunei, which took place at the Mini Lecture Theatre 2, University Technology Hub Building.

The seminar was arranged as part of UBD’s module, GE-2405: Intellectual Property Rights. It was delivered by officers from BruIPO and attended by the students registering for the module, teaching staff and staff from the OAVCIE.

The talk started with a brief introduction on BruIPO, its history, vision and mission, and then, it was followed by the introduction of Intellectual Property (IP), its different types, and the importance and processes of IP protection. As of 2012, 340 Patents, 26 Industrial Designs, and 10,298 Trade Marks have been registered in Brunei through BruIPO. During the talk, the importance of IP has been emphasized, as IP gives owners protection against unauthorized use on top of being great a marketing tool for commercialization, may serve as a valuable asset as well as possible collateral.
