On 5th April 2021, an invited talk by Brunei Intellectual Property Office (BruIPO) took place at Mini Lecture Theatre 2, University Technology Hub Building. The talk was specially arranged as part of the lecture for UBD’s module, Intellectual Property Rights (GE2405). It was delivered by officers from BruIPO and attended by some lecturers and students of the module and staff from Office of Assistant Vice Chancellor Innovation and Enterprise (OAVCIE).

The talk started with a brief introduction of BRUIPO, its history, vision and mission. It followed by the introduction of Intellectual Property (IP), its different types, and importance and processes of IP protection. As of 2012, 340 Patents, 26 Industrial Designs and 10,298 Trade Marks has been registered in Brunei through BruIPO. In addition to this, the offices provides a comprehensive IP regime in compliance with international IP standards. During the talk, it was emphasized on the importance of IP as it gives the owner protection against unauthorized use, a marketing tool for commercialization as well IP being a valuable asset (collateral).
